Silent Voices: An Appeal for the Dignity of Stray Animals

On World Street Animal Day, celebrated today on 4 April, the Bianca Association is raising its voice not just to remember, but to transform realities. Each animal abandoned on the streets carries with it a story of resilient hope, waiting for an opportunity for love and care.

The last few years have been particularly challenging for street animals. Abandonments have grown exponentially, a reality that puts immense pressure on organisations like Bianca. In the last year alone, we’ve seen an almost daily increase in abandonment, which translates not only into numbers and animals in need of help, but broken lives waiting for a fresh start.

Our four-legged friends face daily challenges that defy imagination: hunger, disease, violence and total social invisibility. They are vulnerable beings who survive on the margins of society, fighting against a system that often ignores them and condemns them to oblivion.

Bianca was born out of this fundamental commitment: no animal deserves to suffer. Our work goes beyond immediate rescue and each animal we recover is not just a life saved, but a story of a fresh start, the restoration of dignity and hope for a better life.

Recovering doesn’t just mean treating physical wounds, but also healing emotional traumas. Every lick, every purr, every look of gratitude we encounter during our work reminds us of the transformative power of unconditional love and how rewarding our work is for them, for the animals, even though it is challenging.

On the other hand, adopting is an act of love, of recognising life in its purest and most vulnerable form. Each family that opens its doors to a rescued animal not only saves a life, but receives in return the immense, unconditional love that these animals carry within them. Most animals recognise the comfort of a home and are grateful for the new opportunity.

On this World Stray Animal Day, we invite every citizen to be part of this change. Whether through adoption, sponsorship, volunteering, donations or simply spreading awareness around you of the importance of not abandoning? We can all make a difference.

Together, we can build a world where no animal is abandoned, where every animal has the right to love, care and a home.
