Pet Safe Christmas – Dangers at the Christmas Table

🎄The festive season can be magical and full of love and socialising with our loved ones, including our four-legged friends 🐶🐱
The Christmas season is full of culinary delights that we love so much, but they’re not always safe for our furry companions. Many owners are unaware that some foods that are part of our traditional Christmas dinner can be extremely dangerous and even fatal for dogs and cats.

🚫 Forbidden Foods for Pets:

  • Chocolate: Contains theobromine, a toxic substance that can cause serious heart and kidney problems. The darker, the more dangerous.
  • Grapes and sultanas: Can cause acute kidney failure, even in small quantities.
  • Onions and garlic: Destroy red blood cells, leading to anaemia.
  • Nuts: Some species contain toxic substances and can cause pancreatitis.
  • Alcoholic drinks: Extremely harmful, can lead to intoxication and neurological damage.
  • Cakes: Animals tend not to process sugar and eggs, not to mention the fact that gluten interferes with animals’ intestinal flora.
  • Foods with Xylitol: This sweetener can cause a sudden drop in glucose levels and liver problems.

What to do:

  • Keep these foods out of reach of pets
  • Prepare special and safe snacks for them, there are snacks in specialised shops that can replace our cakes and biscuits.
  • Educate family and guests about the risks
  • In the event of accidental ingestion, contact a vet immediately

Golden tip: The best way to show love at Christmas is to look after the health and safety of your companions!
