Get to know the stories of adult and senior animals who have had their lives changed by being adopted after years of living in the shelter. This is the story of Salt, a 10 year old dog.
Raquel’s testimony:
We adopted Salt, better known as Sal, Salzinho, Pipico, Tiquinho or Ratinho 1 year and 1 month ago and we can’t even remember what life was like without this grumpy, brave and cuddly little potato! From the ‘heights’ of his 11 years, he looks at us intensely, without even blinking, at every meal to see if he’s entitled to any crumbs. With a majestic snore like any self-respecting old man, he loves to be snuggled up in the warmth of any human lap or furry sibling. Endowed with exceptional courage, especially for someone who is only 2kg and a foot tall, he ruthlessly (and without most of his teeth😂) chases all the cats in his path and shamelessly puts his big brothers (37kg Labrador brother Loki and 12kg sis Mila) in their place. Every morning, he looks like he’s on Monday and could do with a bit more sleep until he’s carried (and cuddled) by his owner. He loves being a purse dog and immediately chose the only one his owner has from Bimba y Lola.
He doesn’t shy away from any challenge and, despite his pirate eye, which isn’t a cataract, he navigates the world without difficulty.
We love this dear little animal of ours, and his old age makes us want to spoil him even more every day! Dear Sal, you can’t read but you were the missing piece in our hearts and in everyone you crossed paths with. May you live forever our darling🤍
Stories like this are unfortunately rare, and in recent years more animals have been abandoned. Over the 22 years we’ve been in existence, we’ve realised that, on average, at least one puppy ends up staying at the shelter for its entire life.
Each adoption is a new opportunity for love and a changed life – for both the animal and the human. How about being the next to write an ageless love story?
Visit the shelter and consider changing an animal’s life. Adopt responsibly.
